Pregnancy is a treasured 9 months and for the lucky few, they exude a pregnancy glow. For others, hormonal changes may wreak havoc on their skin, causing skin concerns like acne, melasma and other pigmentation changes, or just dull looking skin.

Such skin issues might cause alarm and concern as you may never have had them in the past and you might be wondering if being pregnant limits your options when it comes to aesthetic treatments.

Aesthetic treatments not recommended for preggers

When you are pregnant, it is not recommended to receive laser treatments or other energy-based treatments such HIFU or radiofrequency skin tightening treatments, as there isn’t enough information on their effects on the foetus.

Likewise, treatments like Botox and Fillers are not recommended for the same reason.

In addition to these, oral acne medication such as antibiotics and isotretinoin (Accutane) are a no-go as these can get into the bloodstream and affect the baby. Any topicals containing retinol or any of its derivatives are to be avoided as well.
