There’s no way to let you down easy on this… we all age.

There I’ve said it, and I think it’s safe for us to all agree that it is ok to age but I think what we all really want to know is how we can slow it down or make it look less obvious on us. We have seen from various sources on social media that there are some humans (really?) who seemed to have escaped the claws of aging and look forever young.

Case in point, these celebrities with 15 years or more between their left and right pictures. Lucy Liu

Halle Berry

Christie Brinkley

For the rest of us who aren’t so lucky, it might be worth it to take a close, hard look at ourselves to find out what it is that makes us look old or even older than we are!

#1 Square jaw

Sure, we’ve all heard about sun damage and how they can age our skin. But beyond skin deep, our very own bone structure could be the one lending an aged appearance. Studies have shown that as one gets older, the lower jaw could develop into a square appearance, and the squarer one’s jaws are, the older one appears to be.

Thankfully there’s no need for drastic measures to ‘fix’ the jaw. Instead, Botox can be administered into the jaw to help one create a slim, feminine jaw for females. This is a relatively painless procedure and results can last for up to 6 months.

#2 Laugh lines

When I was naively young, I genuinely thought deep laugh lines were sure signs of a happy person. And, the deeper they were, the better the personality. Or so I thought. Fast forward 30 years and I have to say I no longer find these lines so endearing, especially when they are looking back at me in the mirror. While it’s true everyone (even a baby) has them and not having them would surely have you looking odd but deep troughs running down your face as a result of aging and loss of collagen aren’t quite so attractive. Think of the structure that holds your skin up and ensures it looks firm is now weakening – it’s time to restore some fullness and volume to your face.

Fillers, as the name suggests, fills up and provides volume using hyaluronic acid to support the skin’s structure. In turn lines are smoothed away and a more youthful appearance restored.

#3 Frown lines

Those lines that you see between your brows or horizontal lines across your forehead occur as a result of repeated movements and contractions. They also develop due to thinning skin and sun damage. Besides giving you an older appearance, these lines could mislead others into thinking you are grumpier than you really feel.

Turning to botox is an effective and safe way to get rid of these lines. A few drops is all you need to block the nerve impulses that cause the contractions, and as these muscles weaken, you will reap the benefits in the form of a more refreshed and relaxed appearance. If done well by an experience aesthetician, the final outcome will look natural and not ‘frozen’.

#4 Dark eye circles

Believe it or not, the first signs of ageing tends to show up around our eyes. Besides fine lines and crow’s feet giving our age away, dark eye circles could lend one a haggard and aged appearance, no thanks to thinning skin around the eyes. As the skin under our eyes becomes thinner due to loss of elastin, blood vessels become more obvious which gives the appearance of dark eye circles.

One of the most popular go-to treatments for treating dark eye circles is Revitalift Undereye, where minute amounts of hyaluronic acid is injected into the undereye to revitalise crepey skin here and to brighten up the undereye area by increasing moisture content to where it’s needed. This is a very safe treatment with best results seen after a few weeks.

#5 Double chin

A beautiful, contoured jawline is a sure sign of youth, so you can imagine what the opposite of that means. As we age, collagen breaks down and the skin around this area loses the elasticity it needs to hold the structure in place. This lends to the unfortunate appearance of a double chin, and this could happen to the best of us.

Thanks to the new Sygma Lift’s patented HIFU technology, one can now tighten saggy chins and firm droopy jawlines with 24K Chin Up treatment, for an improved tone and definition of the lower face.  For all pain-phobes out there, you’d be glad to know it’s painless without any downtime involved.
