When we think of facelifts, we think of visiting the plastic surgeon, going under the knife and literally having your face (or skin on the face) pulled back to give a more lifted appearance. This may sound daunting to some and thankfully there’s now a non-surgical option for facelifts in the form of Ultherapy. In fact it has become of the leading aesthetic procedures that serves to both tighten and lift the face for a more youthful appearance, and here’s everything you need to know about Ultherapy.

Everything you need to know about Ultherapy

What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is a non-invasive procedure that lifts and tightens the skin of your face, neck and even décolletage with no downtime. This procedure uses ultrasound energy to boost your skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin which will give you very natural looking results.

How does Ultherapy work?

By using ultrasound waves, Ultherapy boosts the production of collagen in both the skin and superficial muscular aponeurotic system, which is the layer of fibrous tissue that surrounds your facial muscles. This will not lead to a tightening of the skin but also a lift in facial features too.

Who is Ultherapy for?

Ultherapy is best suited for anyone with signs of skin sagging or skin laxity. This could take the form of a lowered brow, loose skin on the neck, sagging under the chin and jawline and even lines on the chest.

This procedure is great as a preventative and early intervention of such signs. The best part of this treatment is that it can be customised to the individual and tailored to treat specific concerns.

What is the difference between Ultherapy and other skin tightening treatments?

There are other skin tightening treatments that utilises laser or radiofrequency whereas Ultherapy  delivers precise columns of high temperature to the skin without damaging the skin tissue. This lends excellent clinical outcomes to the patient.

When it comes to radiofrequency treatments, the individual will require a series of treatments. Ultherapy however is a one-off treatment.

What is the treatment like?

Ultherapy itself is a non-invasive skin tightening and lifting treatment using micro-focused ultrasound waves. Some may feel some discomfort especially in the bony areas such as the jawline and cheekbone but this can be minimised with the use of topical numbing cream applied prior to the treatment.

After treatment there is no downtime and you can go about your regular activities. Some may experience slight puffiness and some tenderness in the treated areas but this usually goes away after a week or so.

When do you see results?

With Ultherapy, results are not immediate as it takes time for collagen to reproduce. Best results can be observed approximately 3 to 6 months after treatment and it’s recommended to repeat the treatment every 2 years to maintain the results.

Are there any risks with Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is FDA-approved and have been established in clinical studies to be a safe and effective as a skin tightening procedure.
