LipoSculpt

LipoSculpt is the surgical removal of excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body resulting in a slimmer, more contoured and attractive body physique.

How does LipoSculpt work?

In LipoSculpt, fat cells are surgically removed from target areas using a stainless steel suction tube called a cannula. This is achieved via small stab incisions placed over inconspicuous parts of the body.

There are several types of liposuction procedures available. These include mechanical liposuction, ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL) and waterjet liposuction. In ultrasonic-assisted liposuction such as Vaser Liposelection®, ultra-sound waves are used to liquefy the fats before they are removed. Your surgeon will discuss the options with you during your consultation.

All LipoSculpt procedures involve the prior injection of a solution containing medication that creates a tissue environment that helps to facilitate the liposuction. It also helps to constrict blood vessels to minimize bleeding and bruising. The fluid contains anaesthetic agents as well, and this helps in minimizing pain and discomfort in the post-operative period.

What is the difference in fat distribution between men and women?

Men and women generally accumulate fat in distinct and predictable patterns, which are genetically and hormonally related. The distribution in men is primarily around the abdomen and torso. Women accumulate fat around the abdomen, hips and thighs.

What type of condition is LipoSculpt most suited for?

LipoSculpt works best for treating fat deposit in specific areas that do not respond to traditional diet and exercise. The treated areas will retain the new contour unless the patient has large weight gains. Liposuction however is not a treatment for obesity.

What is the advantage of Vaser® LipoSculpt?

Vaser® allows a very thorough removal of fat cells. The heat generated also allows some form of skin contracture or shrinkage, allowing a better post-operative contour. It is also more effective than traditional liposuction in removal of fat from tough areas such as the male chest and in re-do cases.

Is the procedure done under general anaesthesia?

The procedures do not require general anaesthesia. In most cases, intravenous sedation would suffice. It is a day procedure that does not require hospital stay.

What is the recovery process like?

Most patients describe the sensation in the treated areas to be sore rather than pain. Patients are required to wear pressure garments for up to 4 weeks after the procedure. They can resume normal exercises 1 month after the liposuction.

Will the fat return to the areas that have been treated with LipoSculpt?

The body produces fat cells during three different stages in one’s life: in the womb, early childhood, and early adolescence. Generally, after reaching maturity, the total number of fat cells in the body will not increase. Fat cells that are removed via liposuction will not grow back. However, the remaining fat cells may increase in size, and the total fat mass in the area may increase.

What other conditions can LipoSculpt treat?

Vaser® can be used to treat axillary (armpit) breasts, and gynaecomastia (excessive development of the male breast).
